The process of writing institutional website content cannot go through an instant process. It must be preceded by the mechanism of extracting and checking facts in the style of journalistic practice. This process is also known as the reporting process.
Reportage is the backbone of making news by collecting, digging, and seeking information. The information sought must be based on the facts of the event. “The condition for information to be considered news is when the facts extracted can be proven to be true,” said Rifqi Sasmita, Public Relations staff of the Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) in the Website Management Workshop “Website Content Updating” on Thursday, August 5, 2021.
The workshop held by UII Public Relations was originally carried out for the launch of UWA (UII Website Appreciation) 2021 and the preparation of websites within UII.
Rifqi Sasmita said that all information that will be written into the news must be checked for the truth. This is done by verifying and testing the information with the main questions of journalism in the 5W+1H questions.
Before checking facts, gathering facts must also be done in three ways. First, the observations of journalists who were present directly in the event. Everything obtained by the five senses can be observed. It can be seen, heard, touched, felt, and tasted.
The second way of gathering facts is by interviewing. This is done if you want to know the background of the story, the causes of events, and the plot that cannot be obtained from observation. “While the last one is collecting facts from written documents or also known as documentation research,” said Rifqi.
If all the facts and data have been collected, news writing can be done. News writers should avoid the repetition of words and compound sentence structures. “Paragraphs should also not be too long and do not include personal opinions,” concluded Rifqi.
A Journal of The Royal of Medicine (2021) states that people with Covid-19 have experienced mild to moderate illness. The average recovery time after being infected with Covid-19 is two to three weeks. The duration of recovery depends on the severity of the symptoms. Regardless of the severity of the acute infection, one in five people may experience symptoms for more than five weeks. One in ten have symptoms for more than 12 weeks. This condition is known as post-covid.
By July 2021, the total number of Covid-19 cases had surpassed 200 million globally, with the death toll exceeding 4 million, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Many institutions are anticipating the Covid-19 pandemic. For example, the Covid-19 Task Force Team of the Faculty of Psychology and Socio-Cultural Sciences UII conducts Covid tracing regularly. Until July 2021, the Covid-19 Task Force stated that Covid-19 had infected 34 students after a search was carried out. Many of them are self-isolating or hospitalized. The Covid-19 task force stated that currently there are seven students living in Jogja while staying at the boarding house, and one of them lives with his family. Two of them have recovered from Covid-19.
A person who has been infected with the coronavirus can have four weeks or more. Even someone who doesn’t have coronavirus symptoms can experience post-covid symptoms. This condition can have different types of health problems over time.
Based on dr. Nadia Nurotul Fuadah from Depok Regional Hospital, West Java, Indonesia, through Alodokter, Monday (19/07/21), said there were several symptoms that might be a continuation of Covid-19 (post-covid). “Like heavy breathing, stuffy nose on one side, and a feeling of tightness. But in fact, these symptoms can also occur due to other triggers,” said dr. Nadia Nurotul Fuadah. Dr. Nadia Nurotul Fuadah also added that these various complaints arise because they are exacerbated by heart problems, anemia, rhythm disturbances, or others.
Nadia Nurotul Fuadah suggested that if the symptoms were mild, Covid patients needed to be treated at home. People infected with Post-covid need plenty of rest. Don’t take drugs carelessly. There’s no need to panic or worry too much; manage stress and stay calm. You can lift your head so that you sleep more soundly. You can compress certain areas with warm compresses if you feel uncomfortable. Gas-containing foods are prohibited. Drinks containing caffeine, milk, and soda are also not recommended. Exercise to make your body stronger. Stop smoking so that the disease does not get worse.
Do not hesitate to consult the nearest doctor if the symptoms are severe. Health workers can refer you to an in-house specialist or doctor, or health facility if your illness worsens.
Currently, according to a journal from an American public health agency called the CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2019), the best prevention of covid is to get a covid vaccine. It is recommended that everyone aged 12 years and over get the covid vaccine as soon as possible. Patients who have recovered from Covid or Post-Covid can also get the vaccine. A healthy lifestyle is also important to fight the symptoms of the coronavirus. Environmental support to overcome shame or unfounded fear of infecting others is also needed to lift the spirits of corona survivors.

Having many activities makes life always full of choices and sacrifices. Being an archery athlete as well as an international student, apart from being smart in managing time, you also have the ability to choose which ones to prioritize and which ones to sacrifice. Even though the choice is not always right and many make mistakes, from the process we will understand which one is better and how we face tomorrow.
The lesson was learned by Jemima and she shared it during a casual chat with the Teatime International Program of Communication Department, Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) on Saturday, August 6, 2021. Jemima Josephine Hormigas is an International student at the Department of Communication batch 2019. She is an archery athlete and has won international achievements in several countries such as South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, as well as international championships held in Indonesia.
She has been close to the world of sports since childhood. Finally plunged into the world of archery actually because of academic motivation. “Someone asked me why I didn’t join the archery competition. Later you can win or get a certificate. So you can later enter your favourite school using that certificate. After that, I joined, but now I can’t stop archery,” said Jemima telling her story.
Her daily activities as an athlete and a student must be balanced. Jemima can practice six days a week just like in college. “Because I am an athlete as well as a student, the portion for doing the activity is also the same. If I want to face a competition I can practice longer than usual. If there’s a test, I can study longer than practice.” said Jemima.
Talking about time management, many people will say time management is important. However, in some situations, time management can not be applied. There were times when Jemima was in a situation where she had to make a choice. “Suppose we already have a class schedule. Today there is a lecture from 11 to 14, then at 3-5, I practice. That’s time management,” She said. “Suddenly the lecturer might cancel the lecture at that hour and replace it with 3-5 a clock and that is my practice time. There we are tested, our ability to determine which priorities, and which ones we will sacrifice.” Jemima explained.
At other times, we have to sacrifice free time. Jemima also told us that sometimes when she finished her activities, she didn’t want to go home, even though she had assignments to collect the next day. “I can stay up all night and do my homework because I don’t want my grades to be bad either.”
She said that her activities were very flexible in fact. Even though she was practising and having classes at the same time, she was still able to work on them at the same time. “Lectures are online right now. We can mute the audio and turn off the video. Keep listening, keep practicing. But this is not a good thing,” said Jemima, describing the digital culture that is prevalent in the midst of a pandemic.
Such things were one of the various choices she made. Jemima admits it’s not good, but it’s a choice we can make, and we must be held accountable for the consequences. Archery and college, both are responsibilities, whatever the consequences, she must take and fight for, she said. In fact, she’d been able to get through this all along. Nothing is impossible to balance the two worlds: archery and college.
The Covid-19 pandemic is not an obstacle for us to learn. Various online media have supported us to stay productive, even if only at home. So, on August 7, 2020, the Communication Study Program at the Islamic University of Indonesia for the class International Program collaborated with Elsa Speak Indonesia to hold a workshop “Building your Confidence with Enhancing the Public Speaking Skills.” Country Head ELSA SPEAK Indonesia, Yasser Muhammad Syaiful, had the opportunity to speak in this workshop. The two-hour seminar discussed how to improve English and speaking skills in public order to be competitive in work.
According to Yasser, quoted from the Future of Jobs Report, companies’ ability most often sought is communication, whether it’s interpersonal or mass communication. Yasser also believes that the ability to speak English is also essential. According to him, Indonesian people have a low capability to use English. Yasser argues that if we have good English skills, the higher the chances of getting a higher income. Moreover, English is an international language, and many companies need people proficient in using it.
“If we are not proficient in using English, we can lose 30% of our productivity and credibility. We could also lose 32% of international education or business opportunities. So friends now can understand how important public speaking and English are,” said Yasser via Zoom, Saturday (07/08/2021) yesterday.
In the discussion, Yasser opened a question about the reasons why Indonesians are afraid to use English. Fear of using grammar, wrong spelling, and lack of confidence were the reasons most mentioned by workshop participants. So it takes a strong foundation and motivation to be able to use English.
“Honestly, grammar myis still not correct. But I dare say. The matter of right and wrong is later. The important thing is that we have the courage to speak and want to learn,” Yasser said after reading the responses given by the participants.
Four Keys to Learning English
Before starting to learn English, we must know what motivates us to learn. Strong motivation is needed so that we can be consistent in learning. It’s because you want to get a good job or study in another country. Yasser suggests four keys to learn English.
The first key is to prepare a new learning strategy. Learning strategies must be following our learning abilities. Therefore, we must know how we learn. The second key is to familiarize yourself with English and Public Speaking. We can find this in our daily life. Either by listening to music or films in English so that we are familiar with English. Speaking in front of the mirror can also be done to get used to speaking English. Third, we must practice consistently. Without frequent practice, our brains will quickly forget the material we get. Yasser says we need continuous training so that our memory increases.
Then the last key is the evaluation of the various efforts made. Evaluate how the results and materials have been obtained or studied. Evaluation can be from yourself and others. Do not be afraid to ask for criticism and suggestions from others to know how far we can improve. We can also learn from the input of others. If it is still lacking, we must increase our efforts by studying harder. If we are already good, it would be better if it is maintained.
“The essence of learning is not immediately understanding. If we are not reminded again of the material that has been obtained, it will be lost or forgotten. An effective learning process is material that has been taught, repeated again. Don’t be surprised if you like to forget if you don’t repeat it consistently,” Yasser said to the workshop participants.
It’s hard to be consistent in spirit. However, in increasing morale, we must remember the reasons why we should learn English. Be it for your family or yourself. Of course, there is a phase of tiredness and boredom in learning. Therefore there must be self-reward to remain enthusiastic. Yasser said that we must know activities that can increase our enthusiasm for learning. For example, by taking a short break or playing with friends.
Ways to Be Confident in Speaking
Yasser said that although he has had many flying hours by being a speaker everywhere, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t do preparation and practice. He prepares the materials he will talk about and trains public speaking to present what he will speak. Previously, he noted down the framework of what things he would talk about.
“How good are you in presentation, practice and preparation. That’s one thing that can’t be left out. In fact, I’m presenting for now, I practice because I appreciate the type of small or large event. This is one of my processes to do my best,” said Yasser.
He also added that what we do also affects our presentation. For example, it can be blank, cold sweat, nervous, and so on. Yasser quoted Amy Cuddy, a speaker at the TED Talk, who said that great people who do public speaking or become speakers usually do power poses or poses that look strong and dominant. Research results show that doing power poses can increase our self-confidence. This is one of the tips so that we are fluent in public speaking.
Knowledge is power, but the character is more.
“Knowledge is important, but attitude or character is also important. Be careful, if our character or attitude is lacking, the knowledge we get can be turned upside down,” said Yasser.
According to him, we must also have a good attitude or character. There is a saying, “knowledge is power but character more.” That is, knowledge is power, but personality is more important. That is, if we do not have character, knowledge can be misguided. For that, Yasser advised us to have a good personality so that our knowledge can be more beneficial for ourselves and the community.
Not many web managers know that content originality is the key. Originality really determines whether the website can be easily entered in the site search index. Whether it’s a Google search, Yandex, or Bing. The more original it is, the easier it will be to reach the first page of a Google search especially. So is writing web content. The author must ensure that the content is written in a paraphrasing technique. This technique has recently become popular because it makes it easier to write in filling site content. However, taking content from various sources, can not be arbitrary.
Therefore, it is important to write site content without copy-paste. Sources of writing as much as possible are not imitated exactly or taken raw. The right technique for writing like that is the paraphrasing technique. “Paraphrasing is writing in one’s own words and a different grammar from the source referred to,” said Erry Satya, UII Public Relations Staff, online, Thursday (5/8/2021).
The Public Relations Division of the Indonesian Islamic University (UII) held a Website Management Workshop “Website Content Updating” as well as to open and launch the 2021 UII Website Appreciation (UWA). in order to appreciate and update the appearance and content of the site at the unit, department, and faculty level at UII.
Apart from reporting, paraphrasing is a key skill that a website content writer should have. Erry said that at least the web manager in UII could paraphrase by these following six steps.
First, the unit, department, or faculty web content writer can reread all news sources completely. The assumption is, when you have read the entire contents of the source to be referred to, you will find keywords or main points of the idea or idea of the reference source. If it has been found, then the second step can be done. Content writers create a detailed list of all the keywords found so that they can be duplicated in the news to be written.
In the third step, then the site content writer can rewrite all the ideas earlier. The ideas that come from the reference source are written into the content using the original sentences and wording of the author himself. The result is authentic writing.
In the next step, fourth, the author ensures that the main idea of the reference source is still the same as the paraphrased writing. This means that the idea of the reference source does not change. In the fifth step, “the author does not forget to mark unique phrases or terms that are from the reference source,” said Erry in a Zoom Meeting.
The final step is the transparency of the sources of written references so that other readers can also explore these sources. Writing the source of this article is also important as a form of recognition of the author to the owner of the work referred to.
Maka, pada 7 Agustus 2020, Prodi Komunikasi Universitas Islam Indonesia kelas International Program berkolaborasi dengan Elsa Speak Indonesia mengadakan workshop “Building your Confidence with Enhancing the Public Speaking Skills”.
Empat Kunci Belajar Bahasa Inggris
“Esensi belajar bukan langsung mengerti.
Knowledge is power but character more
Ada pepatah mengatakan “knowledge is power but character more.”
