Writing a Book Involving the view of Colonial History

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Writing and discussing a problem with people can be viewed from various perspectives. There is no division of knowledge. If there is, in fact, the division of knowledge is a Dutch imperialism heritage.

Bagus Riyono said that the Indonesian religious leaders before independence were experts in many things. Although what is introduced is only religious knowledge. According to him, in psychology, there should also be a discussion using the Koran. “Then enter the psyche, it’s the soul and character. So the purpose of education is to build civilization, not just individuals,” said Bagus Riyono.

“If there is a division of knowledge, it is called colonial mentality,” said Bagus Riyono in the book Review of Contemporary People Problems: Islamic Perspectives and Psychology on Saturday, April 9, 2022. This event was the first session of Book Review in the 27th Milad of FPSB UII.

The author of this book consists of various experts. they are Dr. Ahmad Rusdi, MA.Si., Nanum Sofia, S.Psi., S.Ant., MA, Ali Mahmud Ashshiddiqi, S.Pd.I., MA, Achmad Sholeh, S.Psi., and also presented a surgeon, Dr. . Bagus Riyono (Chairman of IAMP, UGM Psychology lecturer).

The History of Colonialism Point of View

Bagus Riyono, the reviewer of this book, said that Islam is a religion of civilization, so it is not a religion of certain ethnicities and races. Islamic treatise is a treatise to build civilization. Creating superior humans at the time of the apostles.

Therefore, it is important for this book to look at colonialism as a way of looking at today’s events. Look at it from a historical point of view. “Well, this is the homework of Muslims on how to translate laws and the Constitution into our education and form noble character,” he said. “So that we really go back to the core of the goal of the founder of UII: to make UII independent from colonialism.

According to Bagus, the purpose of education is not to seek popularity or wealth, but towards morality. The goal is the benefit of the people, and ultimately civilization.

“So this must be developed, not partial as an example of colonialism,” he said. “Don’t be allergic to books with different disciplines. There is a book discussing mountains don’t be allergic, because it’s not related to psychology, for example. In fact, they are very related,” he said.

Bagus Riyono underlined this book of FPSB academics must look at the historical context of how colonialism education divided science. “One of the roles of colonial education is to break its history. Because if the people are connected to their history, then they will revolt. He knew that he was not colonized. So the colonized people are made as if they were never free. So the invaders decided,” Bagus explained at length.

According to Bagus, Ibn Khaldun was formulated this thesis, and recorded by the most popular and most authoritative historian Arnold Toynbee, “he said ibn Khaldun was the pioneer of the philosophy of history: history is not reality, that he, history, is a representation of the author’s thoughts. So we need to look at the current condition (problems of the people) from the perspective of colonialism,” he explained.

Regarding this book, according to him, the framework of this book is good, it is classical and contemporary history. not only a matter of behavior or behavior but also a deep psychological issue of morals,” he said.

According to him, education must be connected to Allah SWT. “And anything connected to Allah will make the heart calmer. With a calm heart, civilization will come true.”
