Being a student is the best opportunity to develop yourself. Only a few campuses provide opportunities to develop their skills capacity and open networking opportunities for their students. Not a few students also competed to participate in the wild wilderness to participate in international events. The existence of international activities provided by the campus is a good opportunity for students to participate.

At this Teatime, January 29, 2022, the International Program Communication Department of the Universitas Islam Indonesia (IPC UII) talked about campus programs that are a shame to miss. Inviting one of UII’s Communication Studies alumni, Muhammad Akbar Priandanu, to chat casually will motivate students to take advantage of the opportunities and facilities provided by the campus. Currently working as an Event Management Specialist at the PR Indonesia Group, Akbar also shared his participation in UII Communications during his studies.

While a student at UII Communications, Akbar saw many activities and programs on campus that could develop skills and opportunities for international activities. “I used to really take part in campus events. For me it’s a good opportunity. An opportunity for me to develop myself,” said Akbar.

Akbar recounted his experiences participating in the collaboration program between UII Communication, the UN program, and the Passage to ASEAN (P2A) Communication Department Programs. “These programs have introduced me to social humanitarian activities and perspectives such as gender, inclusiveness, empowerment, even culture and historical heritage,” explained Akbar. He was also a Research Presenter at the Southeast Asia Conference on Media, Cinema and the Arts 2021, organized by the Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies, Gadjah Mada University.

Being actively involved in these events opened up Akbar’s opportunities to get to know the international world. Besides that, it also opens friendship opportunities and further development opportunities.

At the end of the semester, students are required to do an internship. Students are responsible for finding companies or institutions where they will study before they are ready to work in the real world after graduation. This internship is important for students because, based on the various experiences of previous alumni, it will determine the world of work in the future.

Maulida Fitria Averoes, a 2017 alumni of the communication department, is one of those who have experienced this. In the Teatime live Instagram, the International Program of Communication Department, Universitas Islam Indonesia (IPC UII), regularly holds a casual chat on January 7, 2022. Fia, Maulida’s nickname, told how she prepared herself for an internship. This alumni, who are now a User Success Executive at Sirclo, also shared how he went through his apprenticeship.

Listing Company

In a casual chat entitled ‘The Virtue of Internship in determining future career‘, Fia admitted that she began to prepare herself for an internship long before the internship period came. “I started researching which company I would apply to. What company, what field base, and what is the vision and mission,” he said.

“I started listing the company since November,” said Fia. If it is calculated from the internship process, it is still 3-4 months before the term internship starts. Fia also prepared a lot of lists. She even applied to 10 companies she was aiming for. “Who knows if I don’t enter, I still have other reserves,” said Fia.

Lecture assignments, Overview of the World of Work

Often students are faced with tasks that are a pile of piles and don’t know what it’s for. This has also happened to Fia. She remembers that she was assigned the task of mapping stakeholders while in college. She even complained, “What’s the point of doing this task,” Fia complained at that time.

On the contrary, now, when she is already in the world of work, she is grateful that she used to get these courses. “If you have a lot of assignments, believe me, they are used,” said Fia.

Fia, whose work is now related to many stakeholders, is grateful to have received mapping course stakeholder. “I’m holding a corporate client business in agriculture, internal and external stakeholders. Then how should we communicate with them. So don’t be surprised when you are in the world of work.”
